Alabama may return two star players vs. Southern Miss

Dec 16, 2006 - 6:09 PM Southern Miss (7-0) at No. 9 Alabama (8-1) 8:30 pm EST

MOBILE, Alabama (Ticker) -- Despite being hit with injuries to two of its best players, Alabama has done just fine.

The ninth-ranked Crimson Tide will look to continue that success when they host Southern Mississippi on Saturday in the Coors Classic at the Mitchell Center.

Alabama will have center Jermareo Davidson back, and hopefully star guard Ronald Steele, when they take on the Golden Eagles. The Crimson Tide didn't need their two stars in their last contest, but will face a tougher challenge against undefeated Southern Miss.

Coming off a loss to Notre Dame on December 7, Alabama bounced back against intrastate rival Alabama State on Saturday. Richard Hendrix scored 34 points to lead the Crimson Tide to a 92-58 victory. A 6-8, 265-pound forward, Hendrix surpassed his previous season high in the first half alone in leading Alabama to a 51-30 lead at the break.

Jeremy Wise scored 17 points as the Golden Eagles routed Southern-New Orleans, 70-45, in their last contest on December 6.

Southern Mississippi is 5-18 all-time vs. the Crimson Tide, but the teams have not met since Alabama's 83-69 victory in 1996.
