After loss, Washington looks to rebound vs. Portland State

Dec 16, 2006 - 6:13 PM Portland St (7-3) at No. 14 Washington (7-1) 10:00 pm EST

SEATTLE (Ticker) -- After an emotional loss to a tough intrastate rival in its last contest, Washington looks to get back on track.

After starting the season with seven straight easy home wins, the 14th-ranked Huskies will host Portland State on Saturday.

In a physical and intense contest, Washington was routed by rival Gonzaga in Spokane. It was the first real test for the Huskies, who had beaten Sacramento State, Eastern Washington, Idaho and Southern Utah in their previous four games.

Heralded freshman center Spencer Hawes scored 20 points and Jon Brockman added 13 and 12 rebounds as the Huskies dropped a 97-77 decision to the then-No. 18 Bulldogs and had their 15-game regular season winning streak snapped.

However, Bank of America Arena in Seattle has been good to Washington in recent years, and it should help them return to form on Saturday. The Huskies have won 24 consecutive non-conference games here.

Portland State has won seven of its first 10 games for the first time since the 1998-99 campaign. On Sunday, Juma Kamara scored all of his 15 points in the second half as the Vikings won their third straight contest, 72-63, over San Jose State on the road.

Portland State has lost all five meetings against the Huskies with each game taking place in Seattle.
