Repella powers West Virginia past Providence
Feb 6, 2010 - 10:47 PM PROVIDENCE, R.I.(AP) -- Liz Repella scored 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to help No. 11 West Virginia beat Providence 75-59 on Saturday.Asya Bussie added 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds for the Mountaineers (21-3, 8-2 Big East), who bounced back after an 80-47 loss at top-ranked Connecticut on Tuesday.
Chelsea Marandola led the way for the Friars (13-10, 4-6 Big East), scoring 16 points and adding five rebounds. Mi-Khida Hankins had 11 points for Providence.
Repella, who had 20 points in the first half alone, was 9 of 13 from the field. Needing 14 points to reach 1,000 for her career, the junior guard surpassed the milestone on a first-half 3-pointer, finishing the game at 1,011.
West Virginia never let Providence get close, and effectively put the game out of reach early on behind 57 percent shooting in the first half, taking a 48-32 lead at the break.
