Griner leads unbeaten Baylor to tough win at Iowa State

Jan 8, 2012 - 4:34 AM Ames, IA (Sports Network) - Brittney Griner scored 26 points and blocked four shots, as No. 1 Baylor remained unbeaten with a tough 57-45 win over Iowa State.

Jordan Madden added 11 points and eight rebounds for the Lady Bears (15-0, 2-0 Big 12), who overcame an 8-for-29 shooting performance in the first half. Kimetria Hayden scored eight for Baylor, which led by only three at the break.

Anna Prins had 17 points and Lauren Mansfield scored 10 for Iowa State (9-4, 0-2), which has dropped two in a row after winning five straight.

Mansfield's three-ball gave ISU a 15-13 edge with five minutes left in the opening half, but Baylor went on an ensuing 11-2 spurt and was ahead 24-21 at the break.

Griner was instrumental in a big 10-0 run in the second half. She finished off a three-point play and added a layup to end the burst for a 36-24 difference.

Iowa State got as close as five midway through the half, but the Lady Bears expanded the margin to 16 before cruising down the stretch.
