Hartley, top-ranked Huskies brush off No. 3 Stanford

Nov 12, 2013 - 2:19 AM Storrs, CT (SportsNetwork.com) - Stanford's first trip to Gampel Pavilion in 20 years did not go as planned.

The third-ranked Cardinal proved little match for the defending national champion and top-ranked Connecticut, falling 76-57 in front of a capacity crowd at the Huskies' on-campus arena.

Bria Hartley filled the box score with 20 points, eight rebounds and six assists for Connecticut (2-0), which benefited from a terrific performance from its bench to win going away.

UConn's Breanna Stewart battled foul trouble for most of the game and fellow preseason All-American Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis was injured early in the second half after totaling nine points. Reserve Morgan Tuck stepped up with 11 points, however, and Kiah Stokes came off the bench to supply 10 points, 13 boards and six blocks in the rout.

Stanford (1-1) has given up 70-plus points in consecutive games to start the season after holding opponents under that mark for 54 straight games. Amber Orrange led the way offensively for the Cardinal with a career-high 22 points, while Chiney Ogwumike shot just 6-of-16 from the field in a 16-point, 13- rebound effort.

UConn, which ended the Cardinal's program-record 82-game home winning streak last season, scored the final eight points of the first half and went into the break holding a healthy 39-26 lead after Mosqueda-Lewis drained a late 3- pointer.

Hartley's layup off a steal extended the Huskies' lead to 53-32 early in the second half, and Stanford never recovered to fall to 6-13 all-time against top-ranked foes.
