No. 9 North Carolina takes care of Clemson
Jan 17, 2014 - 1:47 AM Chapel Hill, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Diamond DeShields netted 24 points to lead ninth-ranked North Carolina to a 78-55 victory over Clemson at Carmichael Arena.Allisha Gray added 16 points and Stephanie Mavunga contributed 10 points and nine rebounds for the Tar Heels (15-3, 3-1 ACC), who have won three straight.
Nikki Dixon poured in 21 points and Charmaine Tay added 10 points for Clemson (9-9, 1-3), which has lost three of its last four.
Clemson started the game on a 13-2 run with points coming from the combination of Tay and Dixon, but the Tar Heels responded with nine straight points.
Trailing 17-11 midway through the first half, the Tar Heels went on a 25-4 run. DeShields tallied 12 points during the surge, including a 3-pointer with 2 1/2 minutes left to give North Carolina a 36-21 lead.
The Tar Heels led 38-26 at the break and then scored the first 10 points of the second half to pull away.
