Mississippi State tops Tulane

Mar 20, 2015 - 9:04 PM Durham, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Breanna Richardson scored 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the fifth-seeded Mississippi State Bulldogs to a 57-47 win over the 12th-seeded Tulane Green Wave in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

It was the second season in a row that the Bulldogs (27-6) ended Tulane's postseason run after defeating the Green Wave in the NIT in 2014. Mississippi State will now face the fourth-seeded Duke Blue Devils on Sunday.

Kolby Morgan paced all scorers with 17 points for Tulane (22-11), but no teammates were able to reach double figures.

The Green Wave scored the first seven points of the second half to turn a five-point deficit into a two-point lead, but Mississippi State soon responded with a 22-2 run, including 11 of Richardson's points, to go ahead 49-31.

Despite forcing 13 turnovers and grabbing 10 offensive rebounds in the first half, Mississippi State led just 27-22 at halftime. The Bulldogs shot just 28.6 percent, but Tulane was not much better at 33.3 percent.
