Hot-shooting Graves, Lady Vols advance

Mar 21, 2015 - 7:51 PM Knoxville, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - Bashaara Graves shot 9-of-11 from the floor en route to a career-high 24 points, as the second-seeded Tennessee Lady Volunteers claimed a 72-61 win over No. 15 seed Boise State in the first round of the NCAA Women's Tournament at Thompson-Boling Arena.

Ariel Massengale added 18 points in the victory. The Lady Vols (28-5) will face No. 10 seed Pittsburgh in the second round of the Spokane region Monday night on their home floor.

Brooke Pahukoa led the way with a season-best 22 points for the Mountain West Conference champion Broncos (22-11), who struggled with Tennessee's size as they were out-rebounded, 46-28. Deanna Weaver and Shalen Shaw rounded out the double-figure scorers with 13 and 10 points, respectively.

The Lady Vols led 39-32 at the break after a first half that featured five lead changes and saw Boise State shoot 50 percent from the floor, including 5- of-10 from the perimeter.

But the Broncos cooled off in the second stanza and shot just 32.3 percent from the field. UT capitalized, stretching its lead to as many as 15 with around eight minutes to play

The Lady Vols improved to 55-0 at home in postseason play. They are now 53-1 all-time in the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament.
