Arizona State nudges UALR in second round

Mar 24, 2015 - 3:24 AM Tempe, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Sophie Brunner tallied a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead her third-seeded Arizona State Sun Devils to a narrow 57-54 win over the 11th-seeded Arkansas-Little Rock Trojans in the second round of the NCAA Women's Tournament at Wells Fargo Arena.

Promise Amukamara also netted 17 points to help lead Arizona State (29-5), while Katie Hempen's two free throws with eight seconds remaining in regulation put the Sun Devils up by three points. Kelsey Moos secured a team- best 10 rebounds in the win.

Arizona State moves on to the Sweet 16 round of the tournament, and will square off against second-seeded Florida State on Friday.

Kaitlyn Pratt scored 12 points to pace UALR (29-5), while Kiera Clark and Ka'Nesheia Cobbins both contributed 11 points apiece. Taylor Gault chipped in with 10 points in the losing effort.

Arizona State was able to outscore UALR from the free-throw line, 13-3, and own a 41-32 advantage in rebounding in the three-point win. The Trojans, however, held a 40-28 edge in points scored in the paint over the Sun Devils.
