Jensen leads No. 25 Oklahoma St. past No. 20 Oklahoma 71-69

Feb 4, 2016 - 4:29 AM NORMAN, Okla. (AP) Most of Oklahoma State's players were in diapers the last time the Cowgirls won a road game against rival Oklahoma.

Things changed on Wednesday night. Kaylee Jensen had 24 points and 11 rebounds to help No. 25 Oklahoma State defeat the 20th-ranked Sooners 71-69. It was Oklahoma State's first win in Norman since 1998 and the Cowgirls' first regular-season sweep against the Sooners since that year.

Oklahoma State senior Brittney Martin called it the best win of her career.

''I couldn't even talk after the game,'' she said. ''I'm emotional.''

Martin had 18 points and 10 rebounds for the Cowgirls (17-4, 7-3 Big 12), who won their fifth straight.

Oklahoma State shot 49 percent overall and 50 percent from 3-point range. The Cowgirls made 5 of 7 3-pointers in the second half after almost exclusively pounding the ball inside early.

The Cowgirls broke a tie with the Sooners and moved into sole possession of third place in the conference.

Gioya Carter scored a season-high 17 points, and Maddie Manning and Peyton Little both added 12 for the Sooners (15-6, 6-4), who had won two straight.

Jensen made a 3-pointer, just her fourth of the season, to put Oklahoma State up 68-65 with 1:04 to play. The 6-foot-4 center from Genoa, Nebraska, said she was comfortable taking the shot.

''I understand I'm a big kid, but I work on 3s like everybody else,'' she said. ''I think I'm a guard at heart. I was just thinking, please go in, honestly.''

Oklahoma's Gabbi Ortiz made a pair of free throws, then Carter knocked down a mid-range jumper with 27 seconds remaining to put the Sooners ahead 69-68.

Martin drove and scored what turned out to be the game-winning shot with 12.4 seconds to play.

''Brittney Martin, in my opinion, is the Big 12 Player of the Year at this point,'' Oklahoma coach Sherri Coale said. ''She really made plays. A senior that handled herself like a senior and made a really tough shot at the end of the game.''

Oklahoma's Kaylon Williams missed in close and Jensen rebounded and was fouled with 2.8 seconds remaining. She made the first free throw and missed the second, and Little's heave from near half court just missed.

Oklahoma jumped out to a 16-7 lead on the strength of seven early points by Carter. The Cowgirls rallied behind Jensen and trimmed Oklahoma's lead to 39-35 at halftime. Jensen had 16 points in the first half on 7-for-8 shooting to keep the Cowgirls in it.

The Cowgirls took the lead for the first time on a 3-pointer by LaTashia Jones with just under nine minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, and the game was close the rest of the way.

The Cowgirls made the plays down the stretch.

''Oklahoma State is a really good team,'' Coale said. ''They made some big shots at big times in the second half.''

Coale on Jensen's game: ''She's a tough matchup because you can't get position. She's just so physical. She shoots it high, leans back a little bit. It's really hard to get to it to contest it. It's just a position war all night.''

Jensen is averaging 22.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in her past four games while shooting 71.2 percent from the field.

Oklahoma's Carter missed the first 11 games this season with a groin injury. She didn't score in double figures her first five games back as a reserve, but has reached double figures in four of her past five games since returning to the starting lineup.
