No. 25 Colorado State women slip past New Mexico 49-48

Feb 25, 2016 - 4:54 AM ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) Keyora Wharry had 15 points and the No. 25 Colorado State women held on to win their 22nd straight Wednesday night, 49-48 over New Mexico.

Cherise Beynon had a 3-pointer and layup that capped a 12-2 rally by the Lobos and pulled them within one with 49 seconds left. Both teams went scoreless from there although Beynon attempted a jumper with eight seconds left and Khadijah Shumpert missed on the putback as time ran out. Beynon finished with 23 points and Shumpert 13.

Alana Arias gave the Rams (25-1, 15-0 Mountain West) the lead for good at 30-29 and her basket sparked a 17-4 run that ended at 45-33 with 5:43 left. Arias finished with eight points and 11 rebounds, and Elin Gustavsson scored 10.

It was Colorado State's second win at New Mexico since 1998. The Rams host Nevada on Saturday when they can clinch at least a share of the conference title.

New Mexico (14-12, 7-8) controlled the first half, leading by as many as eight in the second quarter before the Rams closed the half with a 10-5 run to get within 23-20.
