No. 16 Mississippi State women turn back Alabama 61-52

Feb 28, 2016 - 9:56 PM STARKSVILLE, Miss. (AP) Dominique Dillingham scored 13 of her 17 points in the second half and No. 16 Mississippi State closed the regular season on Sunday with a 61-52 win over Alabama.

The Bulldogs (23-6, 11-5) secured the third-seed for the Southeastern Conference Tournament, the first-time ever they've finished that high in consecutive seasons.

Victoria Vivians had nine points to surpass 1,000 for her career, and grabbed nine rebounds for the Bulldogs, who made 11 of 13 free throws in the second half to hold off the Crimson Tide (15-14, 4-12).

Meoshonti Knight had 11 points and Breanna Hayden 10 for Alabama.

The Bulldogs led 17-9 after one quarter but Alabama closed the deficit to 28-25 at the half, despite having 13 turnovers that led to 16 MSU points.

Mississippi State stretched the lead to 46-36 after three quarters and the Crimson Tide cut a 12-point deficit to six with 2:48 left but could get no closer.
