Lucas-Perry helps Michigan State steal one

Dec 23, 2006 - 4:03 AM NORTHRIDGE, California (Ticker) -- Victoria Lucas-Perry made one big play to overcome an awful shooting night.

Lucas-Perry scored off a steal with 52 seconds to play to lift No. 20 Michigan State to a 73-69 victory over upset-minded Cal State Northridge.

Despite suffering through 5-of-16 shooting, Lucas-Perry's layup off the theft allowed the Spartans (9-2) to prevail despite blowing a five-point lead at the end of regulation.

Jamie McCaa's 3-pointer with 44 seconds to play forged a 63-63 tie and forced overtime for Cal-Northridge (3-9).

Mia Johnson scored 19 points and Rene Haynes added 16, including a pair of clinching free throws with 17 seconds left, for Michigan State. Allyssa DeHaan, a 6-9 freshman, added 12 and 18 rebounds.

Ofa Tulikihihifo scored 23 points and McCaa chipped in 21 for the Matadors, who were 8-of-30 (27 percent) from 3-point range.
