Arizona State escapes in opening round
Mar 18, 2007 - 6:07 AM LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Briann January scored 15 points as third-seeded Arizona State came from behind to advance through the opening round of the NCAA Tournament with a 57-50 victory over No. 14 UC Riverside in the Greensboro Region.The Sun Devils (29-4) next will face sixth-seeded Louisville in the second round on Monday.
Arizona State trailed, 32-25, at halftime and UC Riverside went on a 6-0 run after the break to open up a 15-point lead.
The Highlanders (21-11) held a 48-38 advantage with 7:56 remaining before the Sun Devils finished the game with a flurry, ripping off a 19-2 run.
Danielle Orsillo had 13 points and Aubree Johnson added 11 and 10 rebounds for Arizona State, which won for the 10th time in 11 contests despite shooting 35 percent (17-of-49) from the field.
Kemie Nkele collected 16 points and three blocks and Amber Cox grabbed 10 rebounds for UC Riverside, which shot 37 percent (19-of-51).
