Hood scores 19 as Hartford upsets No. 24 Michigan State
Dec 22, 2007 - 10:24 PM WEST HARTFORD, Connecticut (Ticker) -- Danielle Hood scored 19 points and had eight rebounds as Hartford defeated No. 24 Michigan State, 54-51, on Saturday.Kalisha Keane had 20 points and 10 rebounds while 6-foot-9 sophomore center Allyssa DeHaan scored 13 points for the Spartans (8-4).
Trailing, 25-22, at the half, the Hawks (10-2) tied the game at 31 six minutes into the second half. Michigan State took a 40-33 lead before Hawks forward Katie Kelley hit back-to-back jumpers and a pair of free throws to cut the Spartans' advantage to 40-39.
Hartford's Lisa Etienne hit 1-of-2 free throws and Kelley added another basket to tie the game at 42 with 5:46 to play.
Keane hit a jumper to retake the lead for Michigan State at 44-42, but Hartford's Jaime McCabe responded with a 3-pointer to give the Hawks the lead for good.
Hood scored a layup to put Hartford up, 47-44, and the two teams traded baskets down the stretch.
A 3-pointer by Alissa Wulff with 48 seconds remaining pulled the Spartans within 52-51, but Erica Beverly made two free throws as the Hawks won their 15th consecutive home game.
