No. 14 Duke pulls away against Houston
Dec 28, 2007 - 9:58 PM HOUSTON (Ticker) -- Sophomore forward Joy Cheek scored a game-high 14 points to lead No. 14 Duke to an 84-68 victory over Houston on Friday.Cheek also grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds for Duke, which posted its fifth consecutive victory.
The Blue Devils outscored the Lady Cougars, 19-5, over the final 6:55 of the first half to take a 14-point lead into the break. Wanisha Smith's layup with 6:39 left gave Duke the lead for good at 24-22.
The Blue Devils (10-3) scored eight quick points in the first minute of the second half to take a commanding 49-27 lead.
Chante Black scored 12 points and Jasmine Thomas added 11 for Duke.
Twiggy McIntyre scored 13 points, Tye Jackson 12 and Courtney Taylor 11 for Houston (5-8).
