Hampton, Walker help California get past Southern Cal
Jan 5, 2008 - 5:33 AM LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Devanei Hampton had 21 points and 13 rebounds and Ashley Walker added 12 and 13 as 10th-ranked California edged Southern California, 57-52, in a Pac-10 Conference matchup on Friday.California (12-2, 3-0 Pac-10) held a 50-30 advantage in rebounding and a 13-2 edge in second-chance points but never led by double digits during the contest.
The Bears held a four-point halftime lead and took their largest lead at 46-37 with 9:06 to play. But the Trojans scored seven straight points to close within two with 5:40 remaining.
However, USC could get no closer, and Lauren Greif scored all six of her points in the final 4:13 as California held on.
Morghan Medlock had 13 points and seven rebounds to lead USC (8-6, 1-2), which shot 36 percent (23-of-64) from the field.
