Kansas State edges Texas in overtime

Jan 13, 2008 - 10:13 PM AUSTIN, Texas (Ticker) -- Kimberly Dietz converted two free throws with three seconds left in overtime as Kansas State pulled out a 77-74 victory over No. 15 Texas in the Big 12 Conference on Sunday.

Shalee Lehning's layup 90 seconds into overtime snapped a 71-71 tie and Marlies Gipson added two free throws with 2:17 remaining to supply the Wildcats (10-5, 2-0 Big 12) with a four-point lead.

The Longhorns closed within one after Carla Cortijo's three-point play with 59 seconds left, but Dietz, who finished with 15 points, made her only two attempts from the line.

Texas' Brittainey Raven and Kathleen Nash both missed a shot in the closing two seconds of regulation.

Lehning finished with 21 points and Ashley Sweet, whose layup with 17 seconds left in regulation forced overtime, added 20 for Kansas State, which won here for just the second time in eight all-time meetings.

Ashley Lindsey had 15 points and 11 rebounds for Texas (12-4, 0-2), which shot 38 percent (28-of-73) in dropping its second straight game.
