Ajavon's 15 points leads Rutgers past Pittsburgh

Feb 3, 2008 - 12:54 AM PITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- Matee Ajavon scored 15 points and handed out five assists as No. 4 Rutgers defeated No. 19 Pittsburgh, 64-60 in a Big East Conference showdown on Saturday.

Epiphanny Prince scored 14 points and reserve Rashidat Junaid had 11 for the Scarlet Knights (18-3, 8-1 Big East), who have won 13 straight and 22 of 23 against the Panthers.

Rutgers, which shot 41 percent (24-of-58) from the field, helped Vivian Stringer come within five victories of 800 for her coaching career. Stringer is 25-1 against Pitt while at Rutgers, Iowa and Cheyney.

It gets tougher for the Scarlet Knights as they next face No. 1 Connecticut at home Tuesday and No. 2 Tennessee on the road on February 11.

Shavonte Zellous scored 20 points and Mallorie Winn added 16 for Pittsburgh (17-4, 7-1), which also shot 41 percent (24-of-58) but was denied its first win in school history against a top-10 opponent.
