Cortijo rallies Texas to upset of Baylor
Mar 13, 2008 - 2:25 AM KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Ticker) -- Carla Cortijo scored a career-high 24 points as seventh-seeded Texas rallied to stun No. 8 Baylor, 76-61, in the second round of the Big 12 tournament on Wednesday.Cortijo scored 17 points in the second half as the Longhorns (21-11) came back from a 16-point deficit in the second half.
Texas, which shot 55 percent (17-of-31) in the second half with 16 made free throws, next will face either third-seeded Oklahoma State or Kansas in Thursday's semifinals.
The second seed in the event, the Lady Bears held the Longhorns to 23 percent (8-of-35) shooting in the first half en route to taking a 40-24 lead. Baylor then hit the skids in the second half, making just 6-of-26 shots (23 percent).
Erneisha Bailey scored 16 points and Earnesia Williams added eight, 13 rebounds and six steals for Texas.
Angela Tisdale scored 23 points and Rachel Allison added 16 and 10 rebounds for the Lady Bears, who finished with 22 turnovers compared to nine for the Longhorns.
