Nelson, Kansas St. end Chattanooga's streak

Mar 24, 2008 - 5:14 AM BRIDGEPORT, Connecticut (Ticker) -- Reserve Kelsey Nelson scored 20 points to help fourth-seeded Kansas State snap the nation's longest winning streak with a 69-59 victory over No. 12 Chattanooga on Sunday in the first round of the New Orleans Regional.

The Wildcats (22-9) set a women's NCAA Tournament record by knocking down all 21 of their free-throw attempts.

Marlies Gibson and Shalee Lehning each finished with 12 points as Kansas State ended Chattanooga's 24-game winning surge.

Laura Hall had 19 points and Brooke Hand added 15 for the Mocs (29-4), who committed 15 turnovers and shot just 36 percent (20-of-56) from the field.

Kansas State will play No. 4 Louisville in the second round on Tuesday.
