Williams leads Old Dominion to first-round victory
Mar 24, 2008 - 5:11 AM NORFOLK, Virginia (Ticker) -- Shahida Williams scored 20 points to lead fifth-seeded Old Dominion to an 82-62 victory over No. 12 Liberty in a first-round matchup in the Greensboro Regional on Sunday.Williams was 10-of-11 from the field for Old Dominion (30-4), which ended a six-game NCAA Tournament losing skid.
Jessica Canady scored 14 points and Jazzmin Walters added 12 for the Lady Monarchs, who advance to Tuesday evening's second-round matchup against No. 4 Virginia.
Megan Frazee scored 19 points for Liberty (28-4), which matched a program and Big South record for wins in a season.
Old Dominion is now 2-0 all-time against in-state rival Liberty, with both meetings coming in the NCAA Tournament.
