Smith drives DePaul past city rival Loyola-Chicago

Dec 21, 2006 - 2:26 AM SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (Ticker) -- Caprice Smith and DePaul won the battle of Chicago - in Puerto Rico of all places.

Smith scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead 17th-ranked DePaul to a 97-70 triumph over Loyola-Chicago in the opener of the San Juan Shootout.

Since dropping their season opener to No. 3 Oklahoma, the Blue Demons (10-1) have won 10 straight contests.

Smith shot 9-of-16 from the floor to pace five players in double figures. Missy Mitidiero scored 15 points and Allie Quigley added 13 and seven assists for DePaul, which forced 27 turnovers.

Jenna Rubino scored 11 points while Felicia Chester grabbed 11 rebounds off the bench for the Blue Demons, who opened a 45-26 halftime lead and cruised in the final 20 minutes.

Marquise Hanser scored 20 points despite shooting 7-of-24 for Loyola-Chicago (1-9), which went just 8-of-26 from the arc.
