Starks powers No. 17 Texas A&M past Sam Houston State
Dec 30, 2006 - 6:46 AM COLLEGE STATION, Texas (Ticker) -- Sophomore Takia Starks put her best foot forward.Starks scored a career-high 28 points as 17th-ranked Texas A&M breezed to a 93-43 victory over Sam Houston State in a non-conference matchup.
Texas A&M (9-2) wasted little time in this one, outscoring Sam Houston State in the opening 20 minutes, 49-15. It shot 45 percent (17-of-37) from the floor in the first half.
La Toya Micheaux scored 13 points and Danielle Gant added 11 for the Aggies, who scored 48 points off an astounding 37 turnovers and held a 40-30 edge in points in the paint.
LaToya Bennett scored eight points and Erica Parker and Adah Wells chipped in seven apiece for the Bearkats, who shot just 30 percent (16-of-52) and missed all nine 3-point attempts.
