McCoughtry's 41-point outburst carries Louisville in win
Dec 30, 2006 - 7:40 AM LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (Ticker) -- Eastern Illinois had a front-row seat for Angel McCoughtry's career performance.McCoughtry scored a school-record 41 points and pulled down 12 rebounds as No. 14 Louisville remained undefeated with a 93-75 triumph over the Panthers.
A 6-1 sophomore, McCoughtry broke Jody Martin's mark of 40 points established during the 1994 campaign. McCoughtry connected on 14-of-26 shots and made 13-of-16 from the free-throw line.
McCoughtry's 29 first-half points helped the Cardinals (14-0) post a 52-43 advantage at intermission.
Jazz Covington had 12 points and 12 rebounds for Louisville, which shot 43 percent (32-of-74) from the field and is off to its best start in school history.
Ashley Thomas scored 19 points and Jessica Huffman added 12 and seven assists for Eastern Illinois (5-8), which shot 41 percent (28-of-68) and committed 21 turnovers.
