Vanderbilt tops LaSalle for fifth straight win
Jan 1, 2007 - 11:32 PM NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Carla Thomas scored 16 points and Christina Wirth added 12 to lead No. 12 Vanderbilt to a 70-59 triumph over LaSalle.After their only loss at Duke on December 7, the Commodores (13-1) have won five consecutive games and will meet Arkansas to begin their Southeastern Conference schedule on Thursday.
Vanderbilt had a strong showing in the first half, shooting nearly 58 percent (15-of-26) from the floor to take a 37-23 lead at intermission.
Thomas made 7-of-13 shots and grabbed nine rebounds and Lauren Lueders added 10 points for the Commodores, who had a 32-23 edge off the boards and forced 20 turnovers.
Carlene Hightower scored 21 points and Jamie Walsh added 11 for the Explorers (11-3), who had their three-game winning streak snapped.
