Fordham women retire No. 55
Dec 5, 2009 - 7:02 PM NEW YORK(AP) -- Fordham retired the jersey of former Rams basketball star Anne Gregory on Saturday during halftime of a game against Rider.Gregory's No. 55 is only the second number to be raised to the rafters at Rose Hill, joining Fordham men's star Ed Conlin. Gregory had 2,548 points and 1,999 rebounds from 1976-80, and helped the Rams to a 91-36 record. Both the points and rebounds are still benchmarks at the school.
Gregory also holds five other Fordham records.
Her 1,999 rebounds stood as the college standard until Oklahoma's Courtney Paris surpassed the mark last season. Gregory's 640 rebounds her freshman year is still the best all-time.
The Fordham players all wore warmup shirts with No. 55 on the back.
Gregory is married to AP Basketball Writer Jim O'Connell.
