Davis, Indiana beat No. 22 Michigan State 68-63

Dec 6, 2009 - 8:05 PM EAST LANSING, Mich.(AP) -- Jori Davis came alive in the second half and finished with 19 points to help Indiana beat No. 22 Michigan State 68-63 in the teams' Big Ten opener on Sunday.

Davis was just 2-for-7 from the field in a five-point first half, but got hot after the break to help the Hoosiers (5-3) rally from a 10-point deficit.

Reserve Whitney Lindsay had 13 points for Indiana and Aulani Sinclair added 12.

The Spartans (5-3) were led by reserves Kalisha Keane with 18 points and Lauren Aitch with 11. No starter scored in double figures for Michigan State, which had beaten No. 6 North Carolina on Thursday night.

The Hoosiers outrebounded the much larger Spartans 30-23 in the second half and outhustled them for nearly every loose ball.

Neither team shot the ball well, with Indiana hitting 31.7 percent (19-60) from the field and Michigan State just 29.0 (20-69).

The Spartans built their lead by shooting 5 of 11 on 3-pointers in the first 20 minutes, with Keane leading the way by going 3-for-3.

But the second half was all Hoosiers, led by Davis and some hustling teammates. Davis got to the line for 11 of Indiana's 37 free throws.

Meanwhile, Michigan State grew lethargic, missed layups and free throws, and made defensive mistakes to squander a 55-48 lead with six minutes left.

Jamie Braun, Lindsay, Sinclair and Davis all scored in the closing minutes and played just enough defense to put the Hoosiers in front.
