Furman women's basketball coach resigns

Mar 16, 2010 - 8:51 PM GREENVILLE, S.C.(AP) -- Furman women's basketball coach Sam Dixon has resigned following a 7-23 season. He had coached the Southern Conference school for eight years.

The school announced his resignation Tuesday and has not set a timetable for a replacement.

This year's team lost 16 of 20 league games and ended the year dropping 11 of its last 12 games. During his stay at Furman, Dixon's teams went 102-135 overall and 63-89 in the conference.

Dixon went 52-34 in first three seasons. After an 18-10 record in the 2004-05 season, the Paladins lost 20 games each of the following three seasons and went 12-18 in 2008-09.
