Bowling Green advances to Mid-American semifinals
Mar 7, 2007 - 2:10 AM CLEVELAND (Ticker) -- Carin Horne and Bowling Green did not let a late-season loss spoil their hopes for a third straight conference title.Horne scored 22 points as the No. 18 Falcons posted a 71-62 victory over Toledo in the quarterfinals of the Mid-American Conference Tournament.
Kate Achter added 15 points for Bowling Green (27-3), which will face either Eastern Michigan or Ohio in the semifinals on Friday.
The two-time defending champion in this event, the Falcons had a bid for a second straight perfect MAC regular season spoiled with a 70-67 loss to Ohio on February 24.
After receiving an opening-round bye, the Falcons came out strong, shooting 52 percent (16-of-31) in the first half en route to taking a 40-29 lead at the half. They finished 26-of-56 (46 percent) with seven 3-pointers.
Ali Mann added 10 points and nine rebounds for Bowling Green, which held a 33-31 edge in rebounding and 13-2 advantage in second-chance points.
Danielle Bishop scored 19 points and Savannah Werner added 16 for the Rockets (11-19), who committed 18 turnovers.
