Wisconsin-Green Bay extends winning streak to 26 games
Mar 19, 2007 - 4:27 AM HARTFORD, Connecticut (Ticker) -- The Wisconsin-Green Bay women used a big second half to stretch their winning streak to 26 games.Nicole Soulis scored 15 points to lead the ninth-seeded Phoenix to a 59-52 victory over No. 8 New Mexico in firs round of the NCAA Tournament's Fresno Region.
Wisconsin-Green Bay (29-3) trailed 29-26 at the half, but opened up the second half with a 20-5 run to take a 46-34 lead. Soulis scored eight points and capped the run with a jumper.
Amanda Popp scored 14 points and Natalie Berglin added 11 with seven rebounds for the Phoenix, whose winning streak trails only Middle Tennessee State (27) for the nation's longest active run.
The Phoenix advanced to Tuesday's second-round encounter against five-time tournament champion Connecticut.
Katie Montgomery and Julie Briody scored 11 points apiece for the Lobos, who lost for the second time in 14 outings.
