Miami-Florida cruises into second round
Mar 21, 2011 - 12:01 AM Charlottesville, VA (Sports Network) - Riquna Williams poured in 28 points to lead the third-seeded Miami-Florida Hurricanes to an 80-62 triumph over the 14th-seeded Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.Morgan Stroman posted 17 points and 12 boards for Miami-Florida (28-4), which advances to the second round to battle sixth-seeded Oklahoma. The Hurricanes also received 11 points and 18 rebounds from Shenice Johnson.
Dominique Hudson posted 18 points in the setback for Gardner-Webb (23-11), while her twin sister, Monique Hudson, pitched in 17 points.
Williams scored 17 of her points in the first half, and the 'Canes led by double figures throughout the second half.
The victory was the first for the Hurricanes in the tournament since 1993.
Gardner-Webb turned the ball over 21 times.
