South Dakota State no match for Xavier

Mar 20, 2011 - 9:11 PM Cincinnati, OH (Sports Network) - Ta'Shia Phillips racked up 27 points and 15 rebounds as the second-seeded Xavier Musketeers rolled to a 72-56 triumph over the 15th-seeded South Dakota State Jackrabbits in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Amber Harris added 16 points and 12 rebounds for Xavier (29-2), which will battle seventh-seeded Louisville in round two. Tyeasha Moss contributed 13 points, and Special Jennings added 10 points for the Musketeers.

Ashley Eide netted 10 points in the loss for 15th-seeded South Dakota State (19-14).

The Musketeers scored 12 unanswered points during one span in the first half and led 39-30 at intermission.

Xavier led by as many as 21 points in the second stanza and were never threatened.

Defense and rebounding were areas of strength for the winners. The Musketeers, who finished with a 45-26 edge on the boards and a 20-2 advantage in second- chance points, limited the Jackrabbits to 35.3 percent field goal efficiency.
