11th-seed Kansas upends 6th-seed Nebraska

Mar 19, 2012 - 2:48 AM Little Rock, AR (Sports Network) - Chelsea Gardner had a double-double with career highs of 15 points and 16 rebounds as the 11th-seeded Kansas Jayhawks stunned the sixth-seeded Nebraska Cornhuskers 57-49 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at Jack Stephens Center.

Angel Goodrich led Kansas (20-12) with 20 points. The Jayhawks will be matched up with third-seeded Delaware in the second round.

Kaitlyn Burke scored 14 points, Lindsey Moore had 12, Jordan Hooper chipped in 11 and Emily Cady finished with a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds for Nebraska (24-9).

Gardner scored 10 of her 15 points in the first half and Kansas was able to go into the break leading 28-20.

The Jayhawks led by 10 several times in the second half but were never able to completely pull away. Nebraska cut the lead to five, 52-47, with 1:28 remaining on a three pointer from Cady. The Jayhawks then got a layup from Goodrich and went 3-for-4 from the free throw line in the final minute to hold on for the win.

Kansas held a narrow 39-37 edge on the boards and shot 37.9 percent from the field in the game. Nebraska hit on a paltry 32.8 percent including an abysmal 1-for-19 effort from beyond the arc.
