No. 5 Louisville tops SMU
Jan 19, 2014 - 9:54 PM Dallas, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Tia Gibbs scored 20 points off the bench to lead fifth-ranked Louisville to an 81-66 win over Southern Methodist on Sunday.Antonita Slaughter netted 17 points, Shoni Schimmel added 12 and Asia Taylor scored 11 points for Louisville (18-1, 6-0 AAC), which has won 11 straight since its only loss of the season to Kentucky on Dec. 1.
Sara Hammond had 10 points and 12 rebounds and Bria Smith contributed nine assists, eight rebounds and seven points for the visitors.
Keena Mays scored 20, grabbed six boards and had five helpers for the Mustangs (11-7, 2-5), who have lost three straight. Korina Baker and Kiara Perry added 14 and 12 points, respectively, in the defeat.
There were four ties and three lead changes in the first half. The Mustangs led by as many as eight points with 5:41 left, however, Louisville finished the half on a 9-3 surge to pull within 35-33.
The Cardinals started the second half with an 11-2 tear and stretched their lead further with a 19-8 burst later on to put the game away for good.
The Mustangs did not come closer than five points in the final 16 minutes as Louisville cruised to the finish.
