Kansas ends Baylor's Big 12 winning streak

Jan 20, 2014 - 12:48 AM Lawrence, KS (SportsNetwork.com) - Chelsea Gardner collected 28 points and 13 rebounds and Kansas ended Baylor's 53-game Big 12 winning streak Sunday with a 76-60 win over the seventh-ranked Lady Bears.

Baylor's winning streak -- a conference record -- included 44 regular-season games and a 9-0 record in Big 12 Championship play. The Lady Bears had won 29 in a row at home against conference opponents.

Natalie Knight added 18 points and CeCe Harper scored 10 for the Jayhawks (9-9, 2-4 Big 12), who had lost four of five games coming in. Their only other conference win this season came against Texas Tech on Jan. 11.

Odyssey Sims poured in 31 points with 12 rebounds for the Lady Bears (14-3, 4-1), who hadn't fallen to a conference opponent since a a 56-45 loss at Texas Tech on Feb. 19, 2011.

Baylor also lost its last game on Monday to No. 1 Connecticut.

Sims scored 21 points in the first half, including six in an 8-0 run to open the game, and Baylor led Kansas 32-31 at the break.

The game was tight in the second half until Kansas used a 9-1 run to take a seven-point lead midway through. Asia Boyd scored five straight points during the burst, which gave the Jayhawks the lead for good.

Kansas snapped a seven-game losing streak to Baylor, beating the Lady Bears for only the second time in their last 20 meetings.
