Jan 24, 2014 - 3:31 AM Winston-Salem, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Diamond DeShields posted 19 points as No. 7 North Carolina produced an 83-65 decision over Wake Forest on Thursday.

Allisha Gray also contributed 19 points for the Tar Heels (17-3, 5-1 ACC), who received 12 points apiece from Stephanie Mavunga and Xylina McDaniel. Mavunga also pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds.

Dearica Hamby's double-double of 22 points and 11 boards wasn't enough for the Demon Deacons (10-9, 1-5). Chelsea Douglas added 20 in defeat, the only other player for the hosts to score in double digits.

Despite shooting nearly 54 percent in the first half, Wake Forest found itself behind 41-35 at the break.

The hosts kept things close until the late stages, as a Douglas triple forged a 56-56 deadlock with 8:22 remaining. UNC gained a bit of separation, but led by just four with 4:42 to play after Kandice Ball's jumper.

The Tar Heels then used a 13-0 surge to break free for good. Mavunga hit two from the line to start the surge, and McDaniel ended it on a layup with 1:22 remaining which gave the visitors a 75-58 edge.
