Notre Dame stays perfect in rout of Virginia Tech
Jan 31, 2014 - 3:11 AM South Bend, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - Kayla McBride led four Fighting Irish players in double figures with 18 points, and No. 2 Notre Dame cruised past Virginia Tech, 74-48, at the Joyce Center.Taya Reimer chipped in with 15 points, Jewell Loyd added 14 and Natalie Achonwa had 10 for Notre Dame (20-0, 7-0 ACC), which has won a school-record 43 consecutive regular season games and 22 consecutive home games.
The Irish, who lead the nation in field goal percentage, made 51.0 percent of their shots and held the Hokies to 27.4 percent shooting.
Vanessa Panousis and Uju Ugoka provided 12 and 10 points, respectively, for Virginia Tech (10-10, 0-7), which has lost eight in row.
The Irish led wire-to-wire in finishing the month of January unbeaten for the third consecutive year. They are three wins from matching the 2000-01 squad for the best start in school history.
