Brown, Thomas lead No. 8 Maryland past Syracuse
Feb 2, 2014 - 7:45 PM Syracuse, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Lexie Brown tallied 31 points with seven assists and Alyssa Thomas recorded a triple-double with 11 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists as eighth-ranked Maryland thumped Syracuse 89-64 on Sunday.Brown shot 11-of-13 from the floor and made 7-of-8 from the arc en route to her career-high for the visiting Terrapins (17-4, 5-3 ACC), who snapped an improbable three-game losing skid. Shatori Walker-Kimbrough donated 17 points off the bench and Brionna Jones added 10 in the triumph.
Brittney Sykes was the lone bright spot for Syracuse (16-6, 5-4), which shot just 36.2 percent in the setback. Sykes finished with 22 points, while the remaining Orange starters combined for just 16 on 7-of-27 shooting.
Brianna Butler, who was leading the ACC with 71 3-pointers entering Sunday's tilt, made her lone triple at 8:43 of the first half to pull Syracuse within 26-18, but it was all Maryland the rest of the way.
Brown bookended a 14-4 spurt with 3-pointers, and her jumper late in the first half gave Maryland a 46-29 advantage.
The Terps scored on nine of their first 10 possessions of the second half, opening up a 66-35 lead less than four minutes in. The outcome was never in doubt after that.
