No. 1 UConn trounces SMU to stay unbeaten
Feb 5, 2014 - 2:18 AM Storrs, CT (SportsNetwork.com) - Bria Hartley paced five Connecticut starters in double figures with 21 points as the top-ranked Huskies kept their unblemished record intact with a 102-41 domination of SMU at Gampel Pavilion.Connecticut (23-0, 11-0 AAC) scored the game's first 19 points and was never threatened at any stage during the rout. The Huskies finished 12-of-20 from 3- point range en route to the easy win, with Hartley canning 5-of-6 shots from long distance and Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis going 4-of-7 in a 16-point, 11- rebound, seven-assist effort.
Breanna Stewart added 20 points for UConn and Stefanie Dolson had 16 along with 11 rebounds and five blocks. Moriah Jefferson contributed 14 points on 6- of-7 shooting to the victory.
Keena Mays' 20 points provided the lone bright spot for SMU (14-8, 5-6), which was held to a woeful 20 percent shooting rate that included a 3-of-19 performance from beyond the arc.
Hartley tallied seven points and Stewart five during the Huskies' huge opening run. Connecticut held a lead of at least 15 points the rest of the way and was comfortably ahead at the half, owning a commanding 54-19 advantage while limiting the Mustangs to a 6-of-36 shooting display.
