Iowa upends No. 9 Penn State

Feb 7, 2014 - 3:47 AM University Park, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Ally Disterhoft scored a game-high 24 points to lead Iowa over ninth-ranked Penn State, 73-70, at Bryce Jordan Center.

Samantha Logic finished with 14 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists, and Melissa Dixon tallied 13 points for the Hawkeyes (18-6, 6-4 Big Ten), who have won four of five.

Maggie Lucas paced the Lady Lions (17-5, 8-2) with 21 points, while Ariel Edwards deposited 16 points and Talia East recorded a 14-point, 12-rebound double-double in the setback.

The two teams were knotted at 40-40 at halftime and Iowa opened the second stanza on a 12-4 run. Dixon opened it with a 3 and Theairra Taylor capped it with a layup for a 52-44 lead.

Penn State's Dara Taylor tied the game, 56-56, later in the half with a jumper, but Iowa would score the next five points to take control once again.

The deficit remained five when the Lady Lions used a 10-0 run that Peyton Whitted capped with a jumper with just under 4 1/2 minutes left.

Penn State would score just one basket from that point on as Bethany Doolittle's jumper with 1:12 remaining gave the Hawkeyes a 71-70 lead which proved to be the difference.
