Ogwumike powers No. 3 Stanford past Washington State

Feb 8, 2014 - 4:50 AM Pullman, WA (SportsNetwork.com) - Chiney Ogwumike dropped 36 points to carry No. 3 Stanford to a 77-69 road triumph over Washington State on Friday.

Ogwumike shot 15-of-22 from the floor and grabbed 17 rebounds for Stanford (22-1, 11-0 Pac-12), which has won 21 straight after a Nov. 11 defeat to top- ranked UConn. Amber Orrange and Taylor Greenfield added 11 points apiece.

Lia Galdeira and Tia Presley scored 21 and 20 points, respectively, in Washington State's (12-11, 6-5) second straight loss and fifth defeat in its last six games. Sage Romberg made four 3-pointers for 12 points.

Stanford held a 46-30 rebounding edge and remained unbeaten against Wazzou in 56 meetings.

Stanford led 20-10 early on after Greenfield's 3, but WSU scored eight of the final 10 points of the first half and trailed just 28-24 at intermission.

Dawnyelle Awa's triple at 9:05 of the second gave the Cougars their lone lead at 55-54. The Cardinal scored seven straight, but Presley and Romberg hit back-to-back from distance to tie it at 61-apiece.

From that point on it was all Stanford. Ogwumike's layup sparked an 11-4 run, and the visitors never looked back.
