No. 10 Terps clobber Clemson
Feb 9, 2014 - 9:10 PM College Park, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - Alyssa Thomas totaled 22 points and seven rebounds to lead No. 10 Maryland to an easy 95-43 victory over Clemson Sunday at the Comcast Center.The Terrapins (19-4, 7-3 ACC) shot a sharp 56.5 percent from the floor and never trailed at any stage en route to their 14th straight win over Clemson. Thomas hit on 10-of-16 field goal attempts, while Katie Rutan went 3-for-4 from 3-point range in a nine-point effort.
Brionna Jones added 14 points and seven rebounds for Maryland, with Shatori Walker-Kimbrough contributing 11 points off the bench.
Thomas netted seven points in the game's first three-plus minutes as Maryland began the contest on a 16-2 run, and the Terps were never threatened from that moment on.
Thomas scored three more baskets during a 10-0 spurt that extended the lead to 33-12 with 5:37 left in the half. The margin swelled to 23 points less than two minutes later following a Rutan three that made the score 37-14 in Maryland's favor.
Clemson finished the period with a 9-2 push to pull within 39-23, but never got any closer. The Terps put the game out of reach with an 11-3 burst early in the second half, with the surge staking Maryland to a 60-35 advantage with 12 minutes remaining.
Nikki Dixon paced Clemson (11-14, 3-8) with 13 points and Chancie Dunn had 10 in the loss.
