Lady Lions take down Buckeyes

Feb 9, 2014 - 9:49 PM Columbus, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Maggie Lucas netted 23 points to lead ninth-ranked Penn State to a, 74-54, victory over Ohio State on Saturday.

Dara Taylor and Talia East scored 12 apiece, while the latter added eight rebounds for the Lady Lions (18-5, 9-2 Big Ten), who have won seven of their last eight.

Ameryst Alston scored 16 and grabbed nine rebounds and Raven Ferguson tallied 16 points and eight boards for Ohio State (14-13, 4-7), which has lost four of its last five.

The first 20 minutes was a back-and-forth affair, which featured three ties and three lead changes. Penn State led by five with 9:27 on the clock, however, the Buckeyes scored 11 straight to take the advantage just over five minutes later.

The Lady Lions used a 7-2 burst to take a 38-36 lead into halftime.

Penn State came out strong to start the second half and scored the first nine points. Ohio State pulled back within six points with 14 minutes left to play, however, the Buckeyes would not come any closer down the stretch.

The Lady Lions proved to be too much for the Buckeyes as they used an 11-3 run to close the game.
