No. 10 Tennessee routs Auburn
Feb 21, 2014 - 2:42 AM Knoxville, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - Meighan Simmons tallied 26 points, six rebounds and five assists and No. 10 Tennessee rolled past Auburn, 93-63, in an SEC tilt on Thursday.Cierra Burdick had 17 points and nine rebounds, Isabelle Harrison double- doubled with 10 points and 11 boards and Andraya Carter scored 12 to help the Lady Vols (21-5, 10-3 SEC) get back on track after a four-point loss to Kentucky on Sunday. Tennessee has won seven of eight overall.
Tyrese Tanner paced Auburn (14-12, 5-8) with 15 points despite playing just 19 minutes battling foul trouble. Tra'Cee Tanner added 14 points and 10 boards.
Tennessee used a big first half run to create space in this one. The Vols led 13-11 after a pair of Meagan Tucker free throws a little over five minutes in, then shut the doors defensively, holding Auburn scoreless over the next 6 1/2 minutes.
Jasmine Jones hit consecutive jumpers during the 19-0 surge and Simmons netted 10 straight to cap it. Tennessee led 32-11 at that point and 54-33 at intermission.
The gap was just too big for Auburn to overcome. The Tigers never got within 21 the rest of the way.
