No. 5 Stanford takes care of USC
Feb 22, 2014 - 4:54 AM Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Chiney Ogwumike scored 27 points and added seven rebounds to lead fifth-ranked Stanford to a 64-59 win over USC on Friday.Bonnie Samuelson added 14 points off the bench for the Cardinals (25-2, 14-1 Pac-12).
Ariya Crook scored 24 points for the Trojans (16-11, 9-6), who have lost five of their last seven. Cassie Harberts contributed 12 points and eight rebounds in defeat.
Stanford traded baskets with USC through the first six minutes of the second half before the Cardinal used a 12-0 run to take a 49-43 lead with nine minutes left to play.
A 3-pointer by Cook cut the deficit to 62-59, but a pair of Samuelson free throws sealed it for Stanford.
USC jumped out to an early 18-7 lead 6 1/2 minutes into the game. The Trojans stretched their advantage to as many as 19 with six minutes left in the first half.
The Cardinal clawed their way back to within seven, 37-30, as they headed into the break.
