No. 1 UConn pounds Rutgers to make AAC title game
Mar 9, 2014 - 11:04 PM Uncasville, CT (SportsNetwork.com) - Breanna Stewart tallied 22 points and seven rebounds for top-ranked Connecticut in an 83-57 rout of No. 24 Rutgers in the semifinals of the American Athletic Conference Tournament.The Huskies (33-0) have won 39 straight games and will face No. 3 Louisville in the final on Monday, following the Cardinals' 60-56 win over South Florida.
Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis scored 19, Stefanie Dolson netted 15 points and grabbed six rebounds and Bria Hartley contributed 12 points and nine assists for UConn.
Briyona Canty went 7-for-11 and scored 16 off the bench for the Scarlet Knights (22-9), who have lost three of their last four. Tyler Scaife and Kahleah Copper notched 12 points apiece in defeat.
UConn raced out of the block in the first seven minutes on a 25-4 tear, with Stewart providing the final five of the burst. Rutgers trailed 50-19 at the half.
The Huskies led by as many as 35 in the second half.
