Lady Tigers tackle Georgia Tech in tourney opener
Mar 23, 2014 - 10:35 PM Baton Rouge, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - Danielle Ballard registered a double- double with 24 points and 17 rebounds as the Lady Tigers of LSU easily dismissed the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, 98-78, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament's Louisville Regional at the Maravich Center.Also producing a double-double for the seventh-seeded Lady Tigers (20-12) was Theresa Plaisance with 21 points and 11 rebounds, while DaShawn Harden pitched in with 17 points off the bench. Shanece McKinney filled out her stat line with 14 points, six rebounds and six blocked shots, followed by Jeanne Kenney with 11 points, six dishes and seven boards.
Georgia Tech (20-12), the 10th seed in the region, was paced by Tyaunna Marshall and Sydney Wallace with 20 points apiece, the former adding seven rebounds and four steals, while the latter shot only 2-of-13 behind the 3- point line. Kaela Davis and Nariah Taylor added 16 and 11 points, respectively.
LSU scored the first points of the meeting and never looked back, eventually shooting 50.0 percent from the field and 24-of-30 at the free-throw line in order to offset 23 turnovers on the day.
The Lady Tigers will be back in action in the second round of the tourney on Tuesday night versus a West Virginia squad that defeated Albany, 76-61.
