Louisville logs lopsided win over Idaho
Mar 24, 2014 - 1:55 AM Iowa City, IA (SportsNetwork.com) - Shoni Schimmel registered a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds as the Louisville Lady Cardinals crushed the Idaho Vandals, 88-42, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament's Louisville Regional at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.Sara Hammond stepped up with 16 points for third-seeded Louisville (31-4), followed by Jude Schimmel with 14 points and Asia Taylor 13 and seven boards. Antonita Slaughter converted all three of his shots behind the 3-point line as she tallied another 11 points in the rout.
The 14th-seeded Vandals (25-9) were led by Ali Forde with 16 points and eight rebounds, followed by Alyssa Charlston with 11 points.
Idaho actually led by four points early in the meeting, but the team shot only 37.5 percent from the floor in the first half, including 1-of-6 behind the 3- point line. Over on the other side, the Lady Cardinals hit on 17-of-37 (.459) from the floor in the period in order to take a 40-21 advantage at the break.
The second half belonged to Louisville as the team converted a staggering 71.0 percent from the field, en route to the lopsided victory.
Louisville, which scored 32 points off 18 turnovers by the Vandals, will be back in action on Tuesday against an Iowa squad that dominated Marist in the first round, 87-65.
