Big night from Martin propels Cowgirls to Sweet 16

Mar 25, 2014 - 4:16 AM West Lafayette, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - Brittney Martin had 20 points to match 20 rebounds in leading the Oklahoma State Cowgirls to a 73-66 victory over the Purdue Boilermakers in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at Mackey Arena.

LaShawn Jones also had a double-double (16 points, 12 rebounds) and Roshunda Johnson tallied 16 points off the bench for the fifth-seeded Cowgirls (25-8). Liz Donohoe chipped in 12 points. Oklahoma State will take on undefeated Notre Dame next.

Whitney Bays poured in 21 points to go with 13 rebounds and Courtney Moses finished with 11 points on 3-of-12 shooting for fourth-seed Purdue (22-9).

Oklahoma State limited Purdue to just 37.5 percent from the floor in the first half, while sinking 43.8 percent itself. The Cowgirls led 38-31 at intermission.

The Boilermakers continued to struggle in the second half, improving only slightly with their shooting (379). The Cowgirls hit on 14-of-22 at the free- throw line and shot at a 41.7 percent clip from the floor to close out the victory and earn their first Sweet 16 berth since 2008.

Purdue turned the ball over 18 times and was outscored 22-15 at the charity stripe.
